ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE TECHNICIAN
Salary Range: $3,010-$4,986/Monthly
Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm; non-exempt position.
Essential Functions: The incumbent will serve as an accounting technician for the Accounts Receivable section of the Business Financial Services Office. The incumbent will: prepare, verify, and process invoices with a high degree of accuracy, completeness, validity and adherence to State of California and California State University policies; perform and document collection activity; verify validity of account discrepancies by obtaining and investigating information from customers and campus departments; resolve collections by examining customer payment plans, payment history and coordinate contact with outside collection agency; post customer payments by recording cash, checks, and credit card transactions; identify delinquent accounts and insufficient payments by reconciling account statements and transactions; prepare month-end aging and reconciliation reports; maintain financial security by following internal accounting controls; data entry and verification; file, maintain and organize file systems; compile documentation, create and update spreadsheets; coordinate and process various forms; and follow-up with outstanding items.
Required Qualifications & Experience: Equivalent to three years of full-time responsible financial record keeping experience that has provided general knowledge of financial record keeping methods, procedures, and practices and familiarity with invoice and collection procedures. Must possess excellent customer service skills and excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to: read and write English at a level appropriate to the position; learn, interpret independently and apply a variety of complex policies and procedures, to identify deviations from applicable policies; apply independent judgment, discretion and initiative to address problems and develop practical, thorough, and at times creative solutions; review financial documents for accuracy, completeness, validity, and adherence to standards; compute and post figures rapidly and accurately; maintain files and records; identify, trace, and correct errors; follow directions; interpret and apply written rules and regulations; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; exercise tact, courtesy, alertness, and good judgment in responding to others; use computer word processing and spreadsheet software programs, such as Microsoft applications, web browsers, query tools, integrated financials systems and/or other types of records management systems, such as PeopleSoft Financials; operate standard office machines; and plan, organize and prioritize work. Demonstrated interest and/or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who may apply for the position.
Special Desired Qualifications: Ability to provide work direction to lower-level staff. PeopleSoft Financials experience.
